If you’re a carer looking after a family member, you probably don’t get much respite from your duties, and although helping a loved one is highly rewarding, it’s also extremely demanding. A few days’ rest can do wonders for your energy levels and enthusiasm, and we can help with that.
Knowing that you are able to come for a break from time-to-time can be a great incentive to keep you going, especially when you are confident that the person you care for will be well looked after by a trained professional during your absence.
TAKE SOME TIME OUT FOR YOU
How often do you need a break?
You don’t necessarily need to have a long break to feel the benefit. Some of our residents and their loved ones find that short breaks at regular intervals work well, perhaps one day or afternoon a week. Perhaps the odd week or two throughout the year we aim to make the resident feel as if it’s a holiday and so allow their carers to go on holiday reassured.
We’ll take care of everything for you
Should you be considering respite at Sandown Nursing Home you are welcome to come and view the Home at any time and have a chat with our nursing team about your loved ones needs. A trail basis is always an option.
Before any respite stay, a full pre-assessment to establish your relative or friend’s health care needs and daily care routine will be undertaken by our senior nursing staff. A subsequent care plan will be prepared before their stay enabling all staff within the Home to have a holistic knowledge based framework to provide care in keeping with their normal routine to minimise distress.
Our involvement does not mean that we are taking over your role, it is just a short-term service that will enable you to enjoy a well-earned, worry free break.
