What Sandown Nursing Home Offers
Palliative Care and Nursing Care
We believe in having an active holistic approach to the care of our residents and therefore provide 24 hour qualified nursing care led by our matron. She has developed close working relationships with outside health care professionals and other professionals to provide the best care package. This is particularly important for palliative care, which is the care of residents with advanced progressive illnesses. Where the need for pain and symptoms management, plus the provision of psychological, social and spiritual support are paramount. Our goal is to provide the best quality of life for our residents and support for their families. We provide this care in mostly single en-suite rooms, which can be personalised.
Social Activities
At Sandown Nursing home, we have a dedicated activities coordinator who encourages our residents to remain independent and to maintain their interests and hobbies. We have an extensive lounge, where social activities are organised from group activities to entertainers. Plus the lounge also offers quiet areas for seeing friends and family. The activities coordinator also provides one-to-one activities to encourage mental and physical stimulation. There is also a well presented dining room, from which is served quality meals from locally sourced seasonal menus, prepared to a high professional standard.
The most important part of a resident’s well-being is to be given the choice, whether to spend time in their room, in our patio and garden area, with the hairdresser or being entertained, whilst our nurses and carers discretely provide for their health care needs.
We strongly recommend making a visit to view the Nursing Home, meet the staff and discuss your needs.
Additional support
At Sandown Nursing home we have a dedicated business manager whose role is to oversee the Nursing Home, allowing our matron to focus on the important side, which is the care of our residents. The business manager is also actively involved in helping residents settle in with the help of the administrator, and is always willing to offer support and advice on areas of concern, for example:
Who should fund our residents, getting financial support and when to involve Social Services or the PCT?
What does the Mental Capacity Act cover and how could this affect our residents and their families, including lasting power of attorney?
Help in liaising with Social Services, the PCT or other Government agencies.
